How to get Clients
One of the hardest obstacles to climb with your business is getting clientele. In this day and age it appears to be a lot easier to get clients than before. With social media at the tips of our fingers we are able to promote our businesses like never before. From Facebook, instagram, to Tiktok. The marketing options are limitless. To make a real online presence you will need to be consistent in content marketing, cold calling/emailing, and you will need a website. Some “old-fashioned” ways to get clientele is through in person marketing, putting up flyers, and leaving business cards wherever you go. Other options would be to find your target audience and cater to them through social media & network in the spaces they are in, and once you get 1 client you should ask them to refer you to others as a means to get your business growing.
Social Media
Social media is one of the fastest and most effective ways to connect with potential clients. Platforms like Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok give you the opportunity to showcase your work, share your story, and engage directly with your audience. By consistently posting valuable content — like behind-the-scenes looks, tips, client testimonials, and projects — you build trust and credibility. Don’t be afraid to DM potential clients or respond to comments; people love working with brands that feel personal and approachable.
Content Marketing
Content marketing is all about providing value through helpful, entertaining, or educational content. This could be blog posts (like this one!), videos, infographics, or free resources. The goal is to position yourself as an expert in your field while naturally attracting people who need your services. Think about what your ideal client is searching for online and create content that answers their questions or solves their problems. The more valuable your content, the more likely they’ll want to work with you.
Cold calling/emailing
Cold outreach can feel intimidating, but it’s a powerful tool when done right. The key is personalization — avoid sending generic, copy-paste messages. Find businesses or individuals who would genuinely benefit from your services, and reach out with a tailored pitch explaining how and why you can help them. Keep it short, professional, and friendly. Even if you don’t hear back right away, you’re planting seeds for future opportunities!
Website
Your website is like your digital storefront — it should clearly communicate who you are, what you do, and how people can work with you. Make sure your portfolio, services, and contact information are up-to-date, and consider adding a blog or testimonials to build credibility. If you have trouble with creating a website I am here to help. Feel free to reach out to me!
In-Person Networking
Yes — old-school networking still works! Attending local events, workshops, and meetups related to your industry or target audience can open doors to new clients and valuable connections. Even casual conversations at coffee shops or community gatherings can turn into business opportunities. When networking, focus on building genuine relationships rather than selling your services immediately. People are more likely to hire or refer someone they trust.
Target Audience
Understanding who your ideal client is makes it so much easier to attract the right people. Think about their age, interests, location, problems, and goals. Where do they hang out online? What are they struggling with? Tailor your services, marketing messages, and content to speak directly to them. When you connect with your audience on a personal level, they’re much more likely to choose you over the competition.
Referrals
Word-of-mouth referrals are one of the most powerful ways to get clients. Happy clients love to recommend services they believe in — sometimes all you have to do is ask! After completing a successful project, don’t be shy about requesting a review or asking if they know anyone else who could use your services. You can even offer incentives like discounts or freebies for referrals to encourage repeat business and client recommendations.
With all these options in mind the easier it feels to gain clientele. Although it might be rough at first, always remember that someone or some business out there is in need of you and your services. It may take time and effort to get clients but once you do it the first time your confidence and skills will come in handy for the next client.
